MANHASSET, N.Y. Toshiba continued to top all suppliers in mobile hard drive shipments for portable devices the second quarter of 2006, according to International Data Corp. (IDC).
IDC reported that Toshiba's global market share in 2.5 inch and smaller hard drives is 27 percent, marking the fourth consecutive quarter the company led in mobile hard drive shipments.
"The size of portable digital devices continues to shrink while storage capacity requirements keep growing," said John Rydning, IDC's research manager for hard disk drives, in statement.
Toshiba recently introduced a 200-Gigabyte, 2.5-inch hard drive in a 9.5-mm mobile PC format. The company is also shipping 1.8-inch drives in 40-gigabyte and 80-gigabyte capacities.
