MANHASSET, N.Y. The market for high-brightness light emitting diodes (LEDs) and substrate materials will grow from $6.6 billion in 2006 to $10.6 billion by 2011, an average annual growth rate (AAGR) of 10.2 percent, according to report by BCC Research titled "Light Emitting Diodes for Lighting Applications".
The report projects shipments of high-brightness LEDs reaching $6.5 billion in 2006 and increasing at an annual rate of 10.3 percent to reach $8.8 billion in 2011. Substrate materials for LEDs are predicted to hit $1.1 billion in 2006, increasing at an annual rate of 9.7 percent to $1.8 billion in 2011.
High-brightness LEDs use a fraction of the power needed for bulb technology, have much longer operating lifetimes, and do not endanger the environment. They are used for the photonic industry, solid state devices, microelectronics, automotive lighting systems, display manufacturers, mobile devices, and other applications.
